On Wednesday, May 18th, the Institute of the Incarnate Word celebrated a special feast in honor of Blessed John Paul II.
The feast which commemorates the birthday of Blessed John Paul II began with solemn vespers on Tuesday, the eve of the feast. The main celebrant and homilist for the Mass on Wednesday was Fr. Gustavo Domenech, Rector of the Fulton Sheen House of Formation who spoke about the contents of an address Blessed John Paul II gave to seminarians in the United States in 1987.
The feast is the result of a decree from the General Council of the Institute of the Incarnate Word which, with the approbation of the Church, officially established two special feast days in honor of Blessed John Paul II. The feast days are May 18th, as noted above, and October 22, the day of his election as Pope.
We thank God for giving us such a wonderful model and intercessor in having Blessed John Paul II as our special patron.
