El Bauth or the fast of Jonah: El Bautha (pronounced bauza) is three very important days of fasting for Christians in the East: it takes place three weeks before Lent and has to do with the fast of three days that was decreed in the city of Nineveh because of the preaching of Jonah. During those three days (this year, from the 11^th to the 13^th of this month) the Christians do not eat or drink anything from midnight until midday, and in addition, don’t eat any animal product, and participate in special liturgical celebrations. In the photos you can see the celebration of the second day in the Church of Saint Paul in Mosul (the only one that has opened since the fall of Isis) presided by the new bishop, Monsignor Najib. There it takes on even more significance, since Mosul is Nineveh, the city where Jonah preached.

This past December 25^th, the Feast of the Nativity of Christ, one of the Aspirants received Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament for the first time. Narimán is a young Sudanese girl who has lived in Egypt with her family for a few years, and following in the footsteps of her aunt, Sister Mariam Malja, asked to enter the Aspirancy that the sisters of our Religious Family have in Alexandria. The sisters were preparing her for her first communion; she confessed for the first time, and on Christmas day, received Jesus Christ, the Bread of Life.
